Eddie Olczyk at the Chicago Auto Show 2018

The Chicago Auto Show returns to its usual winter time slot, running February 12-21. I will be back "On the Beat" as usual.
Along with all of the cars, vehicles and technology. one of the fun parts for me is the celebrity lineup. One of my favorite celebs from past shows is Eddie Olczyk.
Chicago native Olczyk was selected by his hometown Chicago Blackhawks in the 1984 NHL Draft. Unfortunately, he would only play three seasons with the Hawks, but he played 17 seasons in the NHL and even returned to the Hawks for his final two seasons. Since then he has done broadcasting, most recently (and currently) for the Hawks.
Despite his Chicago roots, I somehow never met Olczyk until the Chicago Auto Show in 2018. That show had one of the biggest celebrity lineups, but "Eddie O" was my main target. Fortunately, I was able to talk to him for a few minutes at the end of his shift. He was in a battle with cancer, but thankfully just a short time later, he announced he was "officially cancer-free." I told him he needed to write a book, but I am pretty sure he was already on it, because the next year he released his autobiography.
