I Found the Lost Soul

During the summer, POWW Entertainment ran an outdoor wrestling show at Elk Grove Days. Several POWW legends participated, including Mike Caputo.

Perhaps better known as "The Lost Soul" Chris Cairo, Caputo is a POWW Hall of Famer. In November, he was inducted into the POWW HOF, along with his tag mate Kanoa. A multi-time CCW?POWW tag champ, Cairo was hugely popular. What he lacked in size, he made up for in gimmick, talent and charisma. 

I first met Caputo about 15 years ago. I hadn't seen him in action in several years. He looked in ring shape. More importantly, he had not lost a bit of charisma or personality. The crowd loved him. It was great to see him in action.

Guys like Caputo are what makes indy wrestling fun. While he was never going to make it big in the WWE, Caputo was a good worker who helped build POWW. Actually, in today's big leagues of wrestling with multiple companies and divisions, I have no doubt Caputo could have been signed.

Friendly Encounters: Andrew Shaw and Mike Caputo

Friendly Encounters is a weekly series featuring friends who have met celebrities.

I met Mike Caputo several years ago at POWW.  His "lost soul" gimmick was interesting and definitely a fan favorite.  He has been a mainstay at POWW ever since.  Whether as good or bad guy, the fans love watching him perform.  Aside from being an entertaining in-ring performer, Mike is a good guy.
Mike is also a big fan of the Blackhawks.  Last year, he met Andrew Shaw shortly after he was traded from the team.  Mike described him as a "cool dude," adding that he will miss him.  He is not alone in missing Shaw, a very popular player.
Fortunately for wrestling fans, Mike is still performing in the Chicago area.  Get out to a POWW show and watch this man perform his craft.  Head to POWWEntertainment.com for more info, including their event schedule.

On the Beat at POWW Entertainment-1/20/13

We hit our first POWW (Purely Obsessed Wrestling World) show of the year and we brought some friends with us.  Louie brought Peter and Christopher (his sons) and Andrew (his nephew).  Andrew brought his son Steven.  This Greek contingent would play a big role in the night.
Aside from the excellent matches, we all had a lot of fun with the wrestlers.  Sexy K.C. was the first to make an impression on the kids, when he shoved me into a wall.  Stonewall didn't physically attack anyone, but he yelled at the kids.  K.C. came out again and had to shove me again.  I don't think he likes me very much.  On the good side, "the Lost Soul" Chris Cairo high-fived all of the kids.
The real highlight for the kids was when GQ came out and immediately saw their signs and Greek flags.  He gave them all high-fives and even sat next to them, as his opponent Sexy K.C. stalled outside of the ring.  GQ was pinned by K.C. (after some shenanigans), but still celebrated with the boys after his match.
After the show, the boys took pictures with several of the wrestlers, even the "bad" guys.  With no disrespect to the others, I think it is safe to say that GQ was their favorite.
The fun was not over for the JohngysBeat.com crew, resident heel Scott Beatty scored an interview with POWW Heavyweight champ Cairo.  "The Lost Soul" talked about what it mean to be champ, the good and bad of being champ and more.  For more info on him, check out Chris Cairo on Facebook.

On the Beat with Chris Cairo of POWW

One of POWW Entertainment's rising young stars is "the Lost Soul" Chris Cairo.  Awesomely billed from Lower Wacker Drive in Chicago, Cairo made his debut in 2004.  His finisher is the "Bum Rush".

Despite enduring a hard-fought tag match, Cairo gave us a few minutes of his time before the night ended.  Scott Beatty (the anti-Schiavone) talked to Chris about the origin of "the lost soul", his start in the business, his role models and more.  It's a unique look into the lost soul.

POWW's next big night of wrestling entertainment is Saturday June 23 with a bell time of 7 p.m. at the VFW Hall in Elk Grove (IL).  Don't miss it.
