DJ Corchin at C2E2 2020

C2E2 2020 was the last major event I attended prior to the pandemic shutting down life. Creator DJ Corchin was one of the last folks I met there, although I had met him many times before this. My latest interview with him is at On the Beat With DJ Corchin. 

The multi-talented Corchin reaches a wide audience with his work. As an author, his books are aimed at children, specifically teaching them various aspects of life, interaction and communication. He accomplishes this with a gentle push accented by light humor. The result is an enjoyable read, which also aids the child's journey through adolescence. While aimed at children, his books are also enjoyable to adults sharing them with the youngsters. Adults probably wouldn't read them on their own, but it's always more fun when the book you're reading to a child is not a major bore fest.

One of Corchin's latest endeavors is Call Itta Draw, a live improvisational drawing show on social media. Corchin is joined by some of my favorites, including K Lynn Smith, Jay P. Fosgitt, Seth Damoose and Dan Dougherty to entertain folks with their artistic work and humor.

I don't know if Corchin will be at the upcoming New York Comic Con, but many other creators will definitely be there. Running October 6-9, produced by ReedPop, NYCC is a huge comic con. I attended last year and despite being somewhat scaled down due to Covid, it was still amazing. I will be back "On the Beat" for NYCC 2022.

DJ Corchin at Wizard World 2021

I met author-illustrator DJ Corchin many years ago at a comic con. I have interviewed him several times. The last interview, featuring Joey Roth handling the questions, can be found at On the Beat with DJ Corchin at C2E2 2021.

DJ writes books for children, which are also enjoyable for us big kids. His books gently teach life lessons, like communication, understanding and cooperation. His books are great learning tools for children, because they aren't preachy and don't pound lessons. DJ weaves lessons into interesting stories with colorful fun illustrations. I think so highly of DJ's books that I included Do You Speak Fish?, his latest, on Great Reads 2021 for Global Traveler.

My post-C2E2 coverage brings me to DJ Corchin. Johngy's Beat Special Contributor Joey Roth handled the interview with DJ. That interview can be found at On the Beat With DJ Corchin at C2E2 2021.

DJ Corchin is a children's book author and illustrator. His colorful books are very eye-catching at his booth at comic cons. DJ is a Chicago area native and a fellow DePaul grad. His career started in music, but along the way he discovered a passion for children's picture books. This lead him to create You Got a Boogie, his first book.

Writing entertaining and informative children's books is a double challenge, but one DJ handles very well. In his books, fantastically artwork accompanies fun writing to present wonderful lessons. As Joey discusses with him, especially now, these books are so important. His books are obviously successful and popular, as he now has produced a whopping 24.

DJ Corchin at Wizard World St. Louis 2017

DJ Corchin is an author of several children's books. His books focus on communicating, emotions, optimism and other topics helpful to children. His books are informational and educational, while still being entertaining. Corchin never comes off as preachy. While aimed at children, even adults could enjoy the fun of the books (and maybe even could learn a lesson or two).

During the pandemic, Corchin has been doing virtual visits with children. The 45 minute sessions focus on A Thousand No's, his book teaching children about hearing "no" as an answer. Corchin talks to the children about perseverance and motivation, while also discussing his career. It's a concept. Not only is it entertaining for the youngsters, it also teaches valuable lessons in life.

Corchin is a great guy. I have met him many times and always have a good time catching up at these events.

DJ Corchin is a children's author and illustrator.  His colorful books are very eye-catching at his booth at comic cons.

Corchin is a Chicago area native and a fellow DePaul grad.  His career started in music, but along the way he discovered a passion for children's picture books.  This lead him to create You Got a Boogie, his first book.

You Got a Boogie deals with the concept of telling the truth to someone because you care about them.  Through very funny and a tad bit gross (but grossly funny) artwork and text, lessons are taught and children (and parents) are entertained.

Corchin followed that first book with 12 more children's illustrated books.  Among those is the I Feel series.  These books delve into feelings a child might have, what they mean and how they are all perfectly okay and normal.  Once again, fantastically fun artwork accompanies fun writing to present wonderful lessons.

I often say that life is hard and it starts at a young age.  I don't mean that in a negative way, but rather a realistic way.  Corchin attempts to ease some of the hardships of being a child by explaining and exploring things that might cause issues for children.  He succeeds at creating life's lessons for the children, but also for adults to share.  Everyone is a winner with these books.
