Johngy, Mickey and the Detroit Tigers

The White Sox are facing the Detroit Tigers (their division rivals) for the first time this season).  In keeping with the Detroit theme, I am featuring Comerica Park and one of their lesser known statues.
Part of the experience of going to the Motor City Comic Con is a Saturday night baseball game at Comerica Park.  It is an easy 20 minute ride from Novi.  I don't know if the MCCC organizers plan the convention on a weekend when the Tigers are in town, but they have coincided for at least the last four years.  I am 3-1 so far.  Unfortunately, this year, the Tigers were out of town.
Comerica is a very nice park.  My only complaints involve food and beverage.  The cola beverage is Pepsi and the food selection is mediocre.  For a new-ish ball park, this is disappointing.
In the outfield, there are several statues of Tigers' legends.  It's great to see statues of real legends and not just recent stars.
Speaking of real legends, they also have a Mickey Mouse statue.  Mickey is adorned in a Tigers uni (although the big buttons on the pants are  big disconcerting).  I don't know why Mickey merited a statue, but it is pretty cool nonetheless.

Friendly Encounter In Houston

This is a regular series about my friends who have met celebs.

I am starting a Houston theme with a Friendly Encounter which happened in Minute Maid Park in Houston (TX).  This encounter stars one of the most famous characters ever.  He is beloved by millions and I am pretty sure he even has a star on Hollywood's Walk of Fame.
The star in question is not my nephew Matt, although he fits most of that description.  (I don't think he has a star yet, though).  That doesn't mean Matt takes a backseat to Mickey.  Matt simply hasn't been around as long.  There is little doubt that someday, Matt will be the bigger of the two.  Until then, let's just call this a double celebrity Friendly Encounter.

M-i-c..k-e-y M-o-u-s-e

Tomorrow the White Sox start a three game series in Detroit against their division rival Tigers.  One of the highlights of my annual trip to the Motor City Comic Con is a side trip to see the Tigers.  I am 4-0 rooting for the Tigers at Comerica Park.
I have sat in many sections at Comerica and sightlines and really good everywhere.  The rest of the stadium is excellent, too.  The food offerings are a little minimal, except for the big food and entertainment court in the outfield.
The stadium houses statues for a handful of legendary Tigers, but it also has a statue of a legendary mouse.  While Mickey Stanley had an excellent career and Mickey Tettleton had some great years, Mickey Mouse got a statue and he never was a Tiger (he's always been a mouse).  The Mickey statue is all jazzed up in Tigers artwork and is much more colorful that the real Tigers statues.
I couldn't resist grabbing a picture with this legendary mouse, even if he is trying to appear to be a Tiger.
