Friend Encounters: Clark and Rabbi Jeremy Fine

Friend Encounters is a weekly series featuring friends meeting celebrities.

Rabbi Jeremy Fine certainly met a lot of celebrities when he held 2econd Wrestling events at WrestleMania earlier this year. Still, Rabbi's heart is in the Chicago area and he proved it with his picture with Clark, the lovable mascot of the Chicago Cubs.

Rabbi Fine started 2econd Wrestling a couple years ago. It quickly became my favorite local wrestling. First champ Billie Starkz was followed by Arik Cannon and now Missa Kate. These are three great wrestlers.

On December 10, I will see Rabbi Fine and the 2econd crew at 2nd in Command in Northbrook, Illinois. The main event is Missa Kate defending against Billie. This is a dream match. My pal Tony and I often stated we would love to see this match and Rabbi Fine is delivering it. I expect Missa to prevail in an amazing match. Both women can brawl and both can mat wrestle. I really look forward to this match.

As for Clark, he has kept a low profile since the season ended. He'll do some promo appearances in the offseason, but will return to Wrigley next season.

Follow 2econd Wrestling on social media to get more updates. I hope to see a bunch of friends at 2econd in Command.

On the Beat With Rabbi Jeremy Fine of 2econd Wrestling at StarrCast VI

My coverage of StarrCast VI continues with Rbbi Jeremy Fine. The owner-promoter of 2econd Wrestling discussed the state of the company, the future, the upcoming show, the summer tour and more.
2econd Wrestling is a relatively new, but massively popular, wrestling company. The first champion was Billie Starkz, who held the title for more than a year. Starkz lost the title to Arik Cannon in controversial fashion in a four-way match. Cannon will defend his title against Missa Kate (featured here recently) at Technicolor Dreamwars in October.
I have written about 2econd Wrestling several times, but they keep seeming to top themselves. Rabbi Fine does a fantastic job at running and promoting great shows. The matches are solid, top to bottom. Every show has been top-notch. Rabbi Fine is building something special with 2econd Wrestling and I am happy to give him more exposure.

Rabbi Jeremy Fine and 2econd Wrestling

2econd Wrestling returns to the Chicago area Thursday, April 27. Altarcation also marks the return to Durty Nellies in Palatine.
Rabbi Jeremy Fine is the man behind 2econd. In about 18 months, Rabbi Fine has built 2econd Wrestling into a solid new wrestling company. He has done it without proclamations of greatness or grand plans. He does it with interesting wrestlers, solid matchups and outstanding matches. After seeing many 2econd Wrestling matches in person, I cannot recall any bad wrestling match. I do recall many excellent matches though.
2econd Wrestling started interestingly enough with a tournament to crown a champ and that tourney included women. Billie Starkz was one of those women and she has been the champ since winning it at an early show. Once again, Rabbi Fine isn't bragging about having a woman champ. He is letting her wrestling do the talking.
I have not been this excited about a new wrestling company in a long time. While the wrestlers get applause at the shows, and deservedly so, credit must also go to Rabbi Fine for organizing the shows and keeping the company moving forward. I know those challenges and I know how hard Rabbi Fine is working. It is still early in their existence, but the signs are great for a bright future.

On the Beat With Rabbi Jeremy Fine of 2econd Wreslting

In March, I attended my first 2econd Wrestling show. Flood Zone was an excellent event, highlighted by Billie Starkz winning a tournament to become the first champ.

In July, I saw Walk This Way at Kings and Convicts Brewing Company. Starkz retained her title in an awesome match with Chelsea Green. There were several other great matches, including a fantastic four-way women's match won by Heather Monroe.

When 2econd Wrestling announced Deep Cut for October 27, it was the perfect time to get my first interview with promoter Rabbi Jeremy Fine. Earlier today, Rabbi Fine joined me on Zoom to discuss his young company, which can be found at On the Beat With Rabbi Jeremy Fine.

The interview started with a little football talk. A day after the Chicago Bears won on a rain-sokaed Sunday, we agreed the season was off to a great start. Similarly, as 2econd Wrestling approaches one year, everything is going great.

Rabbi Fine discussed the origins of 2econd Wrestling, including the meaning behind the name. He talked about the debut and the tournament to crown the first champ. Showing respect for other wrestling companies, Rabbi Fine explained his thought process in bringing in talent and selecting venues.

Having Starkz and Blair Onyx in the Championship Tournament was interesting, as was his reasoning. As a big supporter of women in sports, I applaud this. The two women rewarded his support by having excellent, competitive matches.

I was impressed by Fine's mindset. So many times, new wrestling companies debut promising big, game-changing shows. Some even start big, but usually don't live up to the hype or at least not for a long time.

Taking a unique approach, Rabbi Fine wants to be different than other companies, not out of negative feelings, but rather to offer a product fans can't find elsewhere. He's not booking huge names in large locations. He is building slowly, with a long-term plan in place.

I also liked Rabbi Fine stating one of his reasons for starting or enjoying running 2econd Wrestling is the learning process. I've never heard a promoter express that. That thirst for knowledge leads him to carefully choose everything involved in 2econd Wrestling.

Lastly, he discussed Deep Cut to be held at Durty Nellie's. Starkz will defend her title against an opponent to be announced later. Also announced is Charlie Kruel, I wrestler I have yet to see, but who comes with rave reviews.

My friend Tony and I bought tickets the day they went on sale. We were already excited about the show, but after talking to Rabbi Fine, I am even more amped to see it.

As 2econd Wrestling nears one year, the challenge is to keep the momentum. That's what separates the good from the great. I see 2econd Wrestling continuing its trajectory. I'll be “On the Beat” at Deep Cuts and recapping the action here. Check back here and TheEveryDayFan.com for my interviews with the talent from 2econd Wrestling and other wrestling coverage.
