Cards That Never Were: Peter LaCock Topps 1973 & '74

Cards That Never Were is a recurring series in which I create virtual trading cards for players missed in various sets over the years. It is a concept I have borrowed from far too many to list, but I appreciate all of their efforts.
While I usually feature my creations, sometimes others beat me to them. Such is the case today with Pete LaCock. Gio from When Topps Had (Base)Balls and Lynn from the Custom Baseball Cards Facebook group created the LaCock Topps 1973 and '74 respectively.
The son of entertainer Peter Marshall, LaCock was selected by the Chicago Cubs in the first round (20th overall) of the 1970 MLB draft. Debuting in 1972, LaCock split time between the Cubs and their minor league teams from '72-'74. After the '76 season, he was traded to the Kansas City Royals as part of a three team trade also including the New York Mets.. LaCock played with the Royals through the 1980 season, before going to Japan for one season. For his career, LaCock played in 715 games, he batted .257, collecting 444 hits, 27 HRs, 224 RBIs and 214 runs scored.
For his efforts, Topps gave him cards in sets from 1975-'81. That left '73 and '74 missing. While searching for images for me to use, I found Gio and Lynn already made beautiful cards. There was no need for me to try to do the same, but I wanted to feature the work of these creative folks.

Rebel at Blizzard Brawl 2021

Great Lakes Championship Wrestling's Blizzard Brawl returns to Waukesha, Wisconsin on December 2. As usual, I will be "On the Beat" capturing all the action.
Blizzard Brawl 2023 starts at 4:30 with a huge meet-and-greet with all of the wrestlers. There are usually about 20-25 legends and current wrestlers. The wrestling starts at 7 pm. The wrestling card is always solid. It features mostly current stars, with a few legends in the mix.
A couple years ago, one of the wrestling guests was Tanea Brooks, better known as Rebel. Rebel has had multiple stints in Impact Wrestling, Ohio Valley Wrestling and other independent companies, as well as All Elite Wrestling, where she currently is.
Aside from meeting her, there are tqo cool things about this picture. The first is a photobomb by wrestling legend Gail Kim (far left). The second is a photobomb by my friend and the legendary photographer Bob Mulrenin. Because Bob never liked publicity, this is a rare (almost) picture of him in (almost) action. Bob was a great man, but he died about a year ago. We all miss Bob.
Only a couple wrestlers have been announced for Blizzard Brawl 2023. More will be announced soon and I will be updating things as they develop.
Go to GLCWWrestling.com for more info and updates. Check back here for my coverage.

Absurdities: Facebook Opt Out

Absurdities is a recurring series in which I point out absurdities I find in life. You don't have to agree with me, but I challenge you to prove me wrong if so. Also, feel free to send me similar absurdities.

If you're on Facebook, you have probably seen some form of the post below. Hopefully, you haven't posted it.

This nonsense has been around for a long time, yet I still see people posting it. The times and charges change, but the basics remain the same and all of it is untrue.

First, payment info is not needed to signup for Facebook. Therefore, how could we be charged?

Second, if you read the many paragraphs in the Terms of Service we all had to check upon signing up for Facebook, they do have the right to use our posts.

Third, copy and pasting this does not upgrade the system. There is not system like that to be upgraded.

This public service announcement is brought to you by me in hopes it prevents at least one more person from posting this absurd notice. Please stop the nonsense.

Dan Parent at New York Comic Con 2021

New York Comic Con is underway. Running through tomorrow, it is one of the country's biggest comic cons. I will be "On the Beat" meeting celebrities and creators of all sorts.
Comic book artist and writer Dan Parent is a regular stop on my Artist Alley circuit at comic cons. Somehow though, I have never gotten Parent for an interview. I hope and plan to change that soon, now that comic cons are starting to return.
Parent started working for Archie Comics right after graduating from the Kubert School. He might be best known for introducing the first openly gay character in Archie Comics when he created Kevin Keller in 2010. In 2013,  he was given the GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding Comic Book.
Parent also started the Die Kitty Die comic series. The comic features young witch Kitty Ravencraft, who stars in her own comic book. Her greedy publisher wants to increase sales and plots to kill her in the comics and in real life.
There's so much content for an interview just in that paragraph. Actually, his work on Archie alone is enough for an interview. Archie recalls simpler times, when comic books were part of every kid's life. While Archie would seem to be a dinosaur in today's larger-than-life comics world, he remains popular. That's a major credit to Parent and all involved. I'd love to pick his brain a bit about Archie and the rest of his work.

Go to DanParent.com for more info on Dan and his latest projects. Check NewYorkComicCon.com for updates and scheduling on NYCC.

On the Beat With Kaia McKenna

When I was preparing to cover StarrCast VI, Kaia McKenna was one o my main targets for an interview. Due to the noise level and crowd, I could not do it there, but Kaia graciously agreed to a Zoom interview later. Last week, I got that interview.

After listening to other interviews of Kaia, I knew she would be a fascinating guest. Still early in her career, she has overcome a serious shoulder injury, but also has an amazingly mature look at the overall world of pro wrestling.

During her time in wrestling, Kaia has filled many roles. Not only did she enjoy those parts, she also learned a lot from doing those duties. All of that will help her in-ring career, but also is fueling a vision of running a promotion. This plan isn't some armchair wrestling fan playing fantasy wrestling. Kaia has a wealth of knowledge and a good grasp of what is needed. I have no doubt she will be a great promoter if she follows that path.

She also indulged me in talk of being a witch. This isn't the hokey black, pointy hat stuff. She talks of crystals, focus and energy. Maybe to an outside, it is just a mindset. To Kaia it is being a witch. Whether you believe or not, there is a lot to be learned from Kaia

Lessons in improving one's focus can help in all aspects of life. Taking energy from crystals isn't a totally strange concept. It's not necessarily a black and white picture. Why not take whatever good you can from anyone?

In any case, I appreciate Kaia for her time and consideration. I am grateful she was open about her career and life. I am also thankful she accepted my request to learn more about witches as a genuine interest.

The full interview is at On the Beat With Kaia McKenna. Also, check all of the wrestling coverage on TheEveryDayFan.com.

Friend Encounters: Gritty and The Blue Meanie (and Swoop)

Friend Encounters is a weekly series featuring friends who have met celebrities.

I love the picture for today's feature. Two mascots and a larger-than-life character are always a welcome sight.
The big character is Brian Heffron (aka the Blue Meanie) of pro wrestling fame. Brian is a huge fan of Philadelphia sports, as proven in my latest interview with him, which is at On the Beat With The Blue Meanie.
Brian can often be seen at all Philly sports games. He's not a celebrity bandwagon guy. He knows his stuff. He's not just there for the party, although today he appears to be celebrating with Gritty, mascot of the Flyers, with Swoop, of the Eagles, photobombing them.
Aside from all of that, Brian is a great guy. He's always up for an interview or just casual chatter. It's especially fun when he is with his Blue World Order mate Mike "Nova" Bucci. They go at it pretty good supporting their teams (Bucci loves the Dallas Cowboys).
Along with my friend Adam Barnard, Brian does The Mind of Meanie podcast. Go to Brian's links to find all of his projects.

Celebrity Jersey Cards #654 Brandon McManus & Philipp Grubauer

Celebrity Jersey Cards is a weekly series in which I create virtual trading cards for celebrities wearing sports jerseys. Today, I continue my season-long alphabetical journey through all Major League Baseball teams.

Brandon McManus was born in Philadelphia, PA and went to Temple. The kicker went undrafted in the 2013 NFL draft. After signing and being released by the New Orleans Saints and New York Giants, McManus was signed by the Denver Broncos, where he kicked for nine seasons, including the Super Bowl champion team of 2015. McManus signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars for the 2023 season. Before leaving the Mile High city, McManus took a turn in the batting casges to merit his Celebrity Jersey Card.

Born in Germany, Philipp Grubauer is enjoying an 11 year career as a goalie. He started with the Washington Capitals, played a couple seasons with the Colorado Avalanche and is currently with the Seattle Kraken. It was during his time with the Avs that he took BP with the Colorado Rockies to earn his Celebrity jersey Card. Grubauer showed great form, but he is still better at stopping scoring.

Marshe Rockett at Rocket Pro Wrestling

It's just a cool name coincidence, but Marshe Rockett seems a natural for Rocket Pro Wrestling. When he becomes champ (and I believe he will), there are a lot of storyline and marketing ideas because of it.
I have known Marshe fo many years. I first met him when we worked together at Resistance Pro Wrestling. Call it scripted, but when Marshe won the RPro title, there was real emotion in his face and voice. That wasn't faked. That win and title meant something to Marshe.
That's just the type of wrestler he is. He cares for his craft. This isn't just a throwaway weekend gig. Marshe is one of the best on the independent scene. He has had several appearances in the big copanies, too. Marshe deserves all the success he gets, because on top of being an excellent wrestler, he is a class act.
One of the highlights for me covering RPW has been seeing Marshe and his family. If you're lucky enough to be friends with them online, you'll see plenty of heartwarming posts. Even though I follow them, I was a bit surprised at how big their eldest son is. It's great watching his family literally grow.
Marshe is just one fo the stars of RPW. He's one of the reasons why it is the fast-growing wrestling company around Chicago. It quickly is becoming the favorite of so many fans.
I really think Marshe will eventually capture the title. Then will he rename it Rockett Pro Wrestling?
RPW's next show is Darkness Falls on Saturday, October 14. It promises to be full of suprises as usual. Go to RocketProWrestling.com for more info on that event.

Traci Lords

Traci Lords has led an interesting life. In her younger days, she starred in some adult films, but managed to leave that world behind and carve out a successful mainstream career.
I'm sure there were a lot of bumps along the way, but Traci has come through brilliantly. Despite your opinion of her past, all must give credit to what she has become.
Aside from her work, Traci is one of the sweetest people I have met. I have seen her enough at conventions to become a "convention friend" of hers. I don't claim to be best pals with her, but she does recognize and remember me every time.
She is also willing to do goofy pictures. Sometimes, she even instigates the shots. A few years back, as I greeted her, she immediately asked what silliness we would do that day. I laughed, but said I didn't want to keep pestering her with that stuff. Hearing none of that, she suggested the photo below, where she hid behind me. Being that I am too often oblivious to folks around me, it is actually the perfect picture. I would miss Traci, despite her standing directly behind me!
Most celebrities are fan-friendly at these conventions, although some seem like they'd rather be elsewhere. Traci, however, gives the extra effort to make it memorable for her fans.
For more info on Traci, go to TraciLords.com. She's got plenty of merchandise and her appearance schedule here. If you see her, tell her Johngy sent you. It won't get you or me anything, but she might have fun trying to remember who Johngy is without seeing me.

Vehicles: X-wing

Vehicles is not a new series on Johngy's Beat, at least not yet. It is merely a little detour.

If I'm writing about Star Wars, I'm probably writing including my pal Jason. At C2E2 a few years ago, Jason saw an X-wing. For those like me, who don't know a lot about Star Wars, an X-wing is Rebel Alliance starfighter that balances speed with firepower. It is the aircraft piloted by Luke Skywalker in the original Star Wars (of 1977).
I could write more, but I would merely be rewording bits from other sites and bordering on plagiarism. If you need more info, go to those sites (but come back here later) or find Jason. I featured an X-wing as something different from the usual array of celebrities.
This is the kind of stuff you can see at C2E2 (or NYCC, it's sister comic con). Go to C2E2.com or NYCC.com for more info and scheduling.

Harry Smith at Blizzard Brawl 2019

Great Lakes Championship Wrestling presents Blizzard Brawl on December 2 in Kenosha, WI. It's not too soon to make your plans. I already have.
Promoter and #Superfriend David Herro always puts on a fantastic event. There a big meet-and-greet featuring all of the wrestlers, followed by a full night of wrestling. There are always a few legends mixed with a talented bunch of current wrestlers.
A few years back, one of the wrestlers was Harry Smith, son of Davey Boy Smith of the British Bulldogs. I met Harry several years earlier when he was the first Heavyweight champ at Resistance Pro. Harry has wrestled all over the world. Harry looked great and was super friendly with the fans.
that's not a surprise. All of the wrestling guests at Blizzard Brawl are very engaging with the fans. The full list hasn't been announced yet, but "The Fannypack Kid" Kal Herro, Leile Gray, "Iron" Mike Curkov and Al Snow are good bets to be there. I'll update that list as more names are announed.
Go to GLCWWrestling.com for more info and updates. Check back here for my coverage.

Talking Travel With Sahara Rose

Since I debuted the Talking Travel interview series for Global Traveler, I’ve started receiving suggestions for interesting guests. My GT colleague, account executive Maria Angeles, thought Sahara Rose would be a great guest, and she was right.

Sahara is a Certified Wellness Travel Coach and Consultant and Certified Corporate Wellness Specialist. I started this interview by asking Sahara to describe what those lofty titles mean. From there, the interview covered all parts of her job, her passion for travel, travel for healing and much more.

The full recap is on GT at Talking Travel with Sahara Rose. All of the Talking Travel interviews are on the GT YouTube channel. Be sure to subscribe to the channel (it's free) for all of the travel content.

Friend Encounters: Mike Pankow and Sean Lennon

Friend Encounters is a weekly series featuring friends who have met celebrities.

I don't know why I am featuring Mike Pankow and Sean Lennon. They are my bitter rivals in the cut throat world of reporting on pro wrestling.

Actually, there is no bitter rivalry. We are all friends. Besides, I do not cover wrestling exclusively like they do.

Through his Windy City Slam website and podcast, Mike does a fantastic job of covering the world of wrestling. Sean does the same with his Pro Wrestling Enforcer podcast. Between the three of us, we are pretty much at (or at least report on) every wrestling event in the Chicago area and elsewhere, too.

We have crossed paths many times. I have pictures with each, but none with all three of us. That would be like a mini-Mount Rushmore of independent wrestling reporters. LOL Seriously though, the picture of the three of us is a goal for this year.

I dabble in wrestling, but Mike and Sean dive deeply into it. I encouarege all wrestling fans to check out both of their projects.

Check WindyCitySlam.com for Mike's coverage. Check Pro Wrestling Enforcer Podcast on Facebook for Sean's coverage.

Celebrity Jersey Cards #653 Derek Sanderson & Bob Cousy

Celebrity Jersey Cards is a weekly series in which I create virtual trading cards for celebrities wearing sports jerseys. Today, I continue my season-long alphabetical journey through all Major League Baseball teams.

Born in Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada, Derek Sanderson grew up to be a star for 13 seasons of pro hockey. The first seven of his seasons were spent with the Boston Bruins. He was on two Stanley Cup winners and he also won the Calder Trophy for the 1967-68 season. In 389 games, he scored 135 goals and became a Boston legend. He was celebrated with other Boston athletes at Fenway Park, earning his Celebrity Jersey Card.

New York native Bob Cousy was one of the earliest stars in the NBA. The "Houdini of the Hardwood" was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 1971. Cousy played 13 seasons with the Boston Celtics and was a 13x All-Star. Seven years after retiring, he played seven games for Cincinnati, while he coached the team. Like Sanderson, Couy was honored by teh Red Sox and now is honored with a Celebrity Jersey Card.

On the Beat With Steve Ahrendt of Rocket Pro Wrestling

Fresh off of the season debut of Rocket Pro Wrestling, I went on the Beat with RPW commentator Steve Ahrendt. That interview can be found at On the Beat With Steve Ahrendt.

Last Saturday, RPW held Fall Brawl, its season debut. It started with a fun Fan Axxess outdoor event, followed by a full early evening of fantastic wrestling.

Last week, I interviewed Joey Roth and Roxi Heart of the World Famous, Fabulous Idols. Always in the mix of the title scene and the center of the action, the pair definitely made their presence felt at Fall Brawl.

After interviewing the pair and watching the all that happened at Fall Brawl, I wanted to get Ahrendt for an interview to get his take on all things at RPW. As usual, Ahrendt gave a thorough assessment of the situation. He also discussed Darkness Falls, the next RPW show on October 14.

I appreciate Ahrendt for his time and consideration in the interview. I also thank RPW owner Bill Schelli and the entire RPW family for the hospitality.

Go to RocketProWrestling.com for more info and scheduling. Look for Steve (and the others) on The Power Hour n podcast platforms.

The Legend of Urka

Urka is pro softball player Erika Piancastelli, one of my favorites. A native of Italy, Erika has starred for McNeese State, Athletes Unlimited and the Italian National team.

A catcher by trade, Erika has shown her versatility by playing lots of outfield in the AU league. I saw her make one of the best throws I have ever seen, when she threw out a runner at third with a throw from deep right field. The fans at AU went crazy for that play, no matter which team they were cheering. It was just that good.

Aside from her play, Erika is busy with RISR, a softball program to help other players of all ages. Although mostly retired, even old players like e can learn from RISR.

None of that explains Urka though. Fortunately, my interview with Erika gives the whole story. That interview is at On the Beat With Erika Piancastelli.

Go to UrkaAthletics.com for more info on Erika. Also, check AUProSports.com for news on Erika and the AU leagues.

My Plea to CVE

This is an open plea to get wrestler Christina Von Eerie back "On the Beat." Maybe it will become a grass roots campaign.

Although I have only seen her wrestle in person a couple times, I have been a big fan of CVE for a long time. I had the pleasure of interviewing her many years ago. That interview is at On the Beat With Christina Von Eerie.

CVE made her pro wrestling debut in 2006. Since then, she has wrestled all over the world, including stints in Total Nonstop Action Wrestling and Impact. CVE's unique look included a very tall mohawk. She is equally as good on the mic as in the ring. She can brawl or use technical wrestling style. She is a well-rounded wrestler. I have watched many of her matches on YouTube and elsewhere and am always impressed.

In recent years, she has wrestled mostly on the west coast. I only recall one Chicago appearance several years ago and I happened to be out of town unfortunately.

A couple weeks ago, CVE unveiled a new tshirt, which I bought of course. Aside from it promoting one of my favorites, I really love the shirt for its fit. Most shirts now seem to be cheaply made, with the inside of the sleeve being too short. It's a bit of a picky observation, but when I get a short like CVE's, I appreciate the quality. (And I'm not just saying that to butter her up!)

Anyway, I am on a mission to get an update interview with her. I have reached out a couple times and she has been very nice, but is very busy. Perhaps that is true or maybe that is a polite decline. Either way is fine. CVE doesn't owe me any interview, nor does any celebrity. Still, that doesn't stop me from occasionally repeating my request. (I am careful not to become a pest.)

This is meant somewhat in jest, but it is a serious attempt to finally land that update interview. Maybe if CVE sees this or if enough people see it and support the cause, she might be encouraged to grant my request. If not, I will still be a CVE fan and I encourage wrestling fans to check her work online and in person if you get a chance. If you do see her in person, you might want to mention this.

Caileigh Walsh of Northwestern Wildcats WBB

While my main NCAA women's basketball teams to cover are the Loyola Ramblers and the DePaul Blue Demons, I occasionally covered the Northwestern Wildcats when my schedule permitted. Unfortunately, I didn't see a win last season, but I saw some exciting basketball in a great venue.

One player I met was sophomore guard Caleigh Walsh. From Sparta, New Jersey, in high school, Caleigh was ranked number 4 at her position by ESPN. In her first season at Northwestern, Caleigh played 28 games, starting 16, averaging 3.6 rebounds and 7.4 points per game. Last season her numbers were up across the board.

The season starts in a few weeks. Again, I won't be at many NU games, but I will be there on occasion and I will be following the Cats and reporting here on occasion.

For more info on Northwestern sports, go to NUSports.com. Also, check here for my recurring coverage of the Wildcats and NCAA sports.

On the Beat With Rabbi Jeremy Fine of 2econd Wrestling at StarrCast VI

My coverage of StarrCast VI continues with Rbbi Jeremy Fine. The owner-promoter of 2econd Wrestling discussed the state of the company, the future, the upcoming show, the summer tour and more.
2econd Wrestling is a relatively new, but massively popular, wrestling company. The first champion was Billie Starkz, who held the title for more than a year. Starkz lost the title to Arik Cannon in controversial fashion in a four-way match. Cannon will defend his title against Missa Kate (featured here recently) at Technicolor Dreamwars in October.
I have written about 2econd Wrestling several times, but they keep seeming to top themselves. Rabbi Fine does a fantastic job at running and promoting great shows. The matches are solid, top to bottom. Every show has been top-notch. Rabbi Fine is building something special with 2econd Wrestling and I am happy to give him more exposure.

On the Beat With Danhausen at StarrCast VI

My coverage of StarrCast VI concludes with my interview with Danhausen of All Elite Wrestling. It is a bit silly, but at least I was not cursed.

Danhausen and I go back many years in a way. I met Brian Danhausen at the Motor City Comic Con many years ago. The artist and writer is the father of wrestler Danhausen. The elder Danhausen spoke highly of his wrestler-wanna-be son. Fast forward to the present and Danhausen's goal ca meto fruition. The younger Danhausen is one of the stars of AEW.

At StarrCast VI, I had the pleasure of a short interview with him. He talked about the convention, Halloween, food and his favorite artost and writer (aka Poppa Danhausen). We packed a lot into a short interview, but it was a lot of fun.

Watch our interview at On the Beat With Danhausen at StarrCast VI. Check my wrestling coverage on TheEveryDayFan.com.

Friend Encounters: Nadia Hilker and Tony

Friend Encounters is a weekly series featuring friends who have met celebrities.

Over the last few years, I have done a lot of events with Tony. Although our paths crossed for several years, it took us a while before we realized we should be attending these events togeter to make them easier and more fun.
Today, I feature Tony with Nadia Hilker, who he met without me! I cannot really be mad at him for this one, since we really weren't doing conventions together then. I just used to look at his posted pics and be envious of the people he met.
Hilker is a German actress possibly best known for her role on television's The Walking Dead. That's another reason I couldn't be angry. I was never a fan of TWD. In fact, I don't think I have even seen a full episode. Yes, I am one of the very few.
Fortunately, Tony and I did start going to conventions together. Not only does it make things easier and more entertaining, it also eliminates either of us seething over the other one meeting someone we wanted to meet.

Celebrity Jersey Cards #652 Darius Rucker & Trisha Yearwood

Celebrity Jersey Cards is a weekly series in which I create virtual trading cards for celebrities wearing sports jerseys. Today, I continue my season-long alphabetical journey through all Major League Baseball teams.

Born in Charleston, SC, Darius Rucker first gained fame as the lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist of rock band Hootie & the Blowfish. In 2001, he released his debut solo album and has also ventured into country music. Rucker is an avid South Carolina Gamecocks fan as well as a Miami Dolphins and Cincinnati Reds fan. It's his allegiance to the Reds which led him to his Celebrity Jersey Card. Perhaps there is a picture of him in a Dolphins jersey which can be another CJC.

Georgia native, Trisha Yearwood rose to fame with a string of country hits starting in the early 1990s. She has sold more than 15 million records and earned three Grammy Awards. She also earned an Emmy for her show Trisha's Southern Kitchen. In singing the National Anthem for the Reds, she earned her Celebrity Jersey Card.

Rocket Pro Wrestling Returns!

Rocket Pro Wrestling returns today. The World Famous Fabulous Idols Joey Roth and Roxi Heart are not scheduled to be part of the show, but I'm betting they will make an appearance.
The pair remained tight-lipped about the possibilities, but history states Joey and Roxi will not sit on the sidelines. They are always part of the action.
I wrote more about the actual show on Rocket Pro Wrestling Returns on the Joliet Patch. Almost every match is a title match on a loaded card.
Why aren't the WFFI on the card? Last season ended with a betrayal and the WFFI seemingly down. Anyone who knows them, knows they don't stay down long and things are never as they seem with them. Joey and Roxi always have aces (yes, several) up their sleeves. Saturday, some of those aces should be revealed. I can't wait t see what happens.
I will be "On the Beat" as always. I'll be getting more interiews and info, which I will recap here and on the Joliet Patch.

On the Beat With Missa Kate at StarrCast VI

My coverage of StarrCast VI continues with an interview with Missa Kate of 2econd Wrestling. "Chicago's favorite sweetheart" is also one of Johngy's Beat's favorites.
Missa Kate is talented in the ring as a technical wrestler or a brawler. She is excellent on the mic, loaded with charisma, personality, attitude and look of a champ. I would call her "The Total Package," but that name is already used by another wrestler and Missa Kate is too much of an original to copy anyone.
I have never seen a bad match from Missa Kate. She doesn't always win, of course, but she always puts on a wrestling clinic.
At StarrCast VI, I had the pleasure of interviewing her about her upcoming title match with Arik Cannon at 2ecind Wrestling's Technicolor Dreamwars in October. Formerly one-half of the NWA Women's tag team champions (with Madi Wrenkowski), Missa is capable of beating Cannon or anyone else. She is collecting belts and hopes to add the 2econd Wrestling championship to her resume. She also talked a bit about donuts, one of her other passions.

On the Beat With Frank the Clown at StarrCast VI

My coverage of StarrCast VI continues with some clowning around. Although he is full of hijinks, Frank the Clown takes football, especially hiss Los Angeles Rams, very seriously.

Although some find him to be a nuisance (an achievement which makes him proud), Frank the Clown has made quite a name for himself in pro wrestling. He has worked with a few companies, including Warrior Wrestling, where he was often with "The Ego" Robert Anthony, one of my all-time favorites. While some may find Frank annoying (again, a source of pride for him), I find him highly entertaining.

When he isn't causing havoc on the wrestling scene, Frank the Clown's thoughts turn to the Los Angeles Rams. Frank takes great pride that he may be hated by some, but is never ignored. He takes even more pride in the Super Bowl LVI champion Los Angeles Rams. Like Meanie, Frank proved he knows his stuff as he gave his favorite players from several eras of the Rams.

Watch the interview at On the Beat With Frank the Clown at StarrCast VI. Check my recaps of StarrCast VI on TheEveryDayFan.com.

On the Beat With The Blue Meanie at StarrCast VI

I spent my weekend at StarrCast VI, immersed in the world of pro wrestling. In its sixth year, StarrCast drew thousands of fans.

After debuting in 2018 in Schaumburg, Illinois, StarrCast returned to there in 2019 and again this year. It has also been in Paradise, Nevada, Nashville, Tennessee and Baltimore, Maryland. Promoted by Conrad Thompson, it was three days of meet-and-greets, panels, Q&A's and other events.

Despite it being a wrestling convention, part of my focus on Friday was football. Knowing wrestling friends The Blue Meanie and Frank the Clown are big football fans, I got their thoughst on their favorite teams for the upcoming season.

The Blue Meanie (Brian Heffron) is an Extreme Championship Original, who also had a successful stint in the WWE and a few independent companies. He is a great guest at wrestling conventions. A Philadelphia native, Brian is true to his roots in his sports fandom. Not a fair-weather fan, Brian (along with "Mrs. Meanie") is often spotted at all Philly teams' games. He also has a friendly football rivalry with fellow Blue World Order member Nova (aka Mike Bucci), as referenced in our interview.

Check out our interview at On the Beat with The Blue Meanie at StarrCast VI. Also, check my StarrCast recaps on TheEveryDayFan.com.

First time travel author Ryan Crain is my guest on the latest episode of Talking Travel on Global Traveler. That episode can be found at Talking Travel with Ryan Crain.
Looking to escape a downward spiral after life-changing events, Crain turned to travel. Not only did it help pull him out of his state of mind, it changed his whole life path. Crain discussed what led him to travel, his initial travel plan, how travel changed his life and much more, including his book, Gravel Roads. Friend Encounters: Regan Lydale and Tommy Else

Friend Encounters is a weekly series featuring friends who have met celebrities.

Today I present two friends who have a wrestling connection. My friend Tommy Else actually introduced me to his friend Regan Lydale, only she wasn't Regan Lydale back then.
Many years ago, Tommy won an audition to become part of Resistance Pro Wrestling. A Personal Trainer by profession, Tommy quickly adapted to his new role as a manager/wrestler, eventually becoming one-half of the tag team champions Body Magic.
At some point, a teenager who had a huge interest in wrestling asked him to train her. Because she was not 18, she couldn't actually wrestle, but Tommy taught her the basics of all aspects of wrestling. She eventually moved on to the Freelance Wrestling Academy to continue her training. It was there when she morphed into Regan Lydale.
I have seen her wrestle several times. I know of her passion. I see her doing the little things on shows even if she isn't wrestling. If she continues on this path (and I believe she will), her future is bright.
Tommy will argue he is the celebrity in this Friend Encounter. I counter that while Tommy at one time was the face of RPro, he has gracefully faded into the background while Regan is the rising star. Maybe that is a better way to put it. Tommy was the bigger star, but Regan is the future star.
For a better idea of both, check out our interview at The Johngy "OR ELSE" Podcasr - Ep. 36: Regan Lydale. If you get the chance to see Regan wrestle, do not miss this young wrestler.

Happy Birthday, Matt

Today is my nephew Matt's Birthday. Join me as I reflect upon the legend of Big Money.

The picture below perfectly captures the essence of Big Money in his prime working with Johngy's Beat. Always repping the Beat apparel and always ready with a big thumb's up for the cameras. If you were a fan of Resistance Pro Wrestling back in the 2010's, you definitely saw Big Money in action at the shows, in pictures and even on the dvd's.

We had a ton of fun back during those years. It never felt like work with Matt. We were just two knuckleheads who couldn't believe the access we had at times. Whether backstage at wrestling, on Major League Baseball Fields or waiting on comic con guests for interviews, we always had a blast.

Life moves on and Matt now has a beautiful family of a wife and two young children. I couldn't be happier for him. He deserves all the happiness he can get.

It always makes me smile when these memories pop up on my timeline or when he sends me one from his. That was a great time in life and now I get to make new memories as I watch his family grow.

I am sure Matt will celebrate with his family today. I wish him a great birthday from a couple hours away. I love ya, Big Money!

Celebrity Jersey Cards #651 Richard Petty & Aric Almirola

Celebrity Jersey Cards is a weekly series in which I create virtual trading cards for celebrities wearing sports jerseys. Today, I continue my season-long alphabetical journey through all Major League Baseball teams.

Born in North Carolina, Richard Lee Petty became "the King" of racers. During his legendary career on the track, Petty racked up numerous awards and accolades. As the son of Lee, Richard is a second generation racer. He is also the father of racer Kyle and grandfather of the late Adam, who tragically died in a practice crash. Petty wore his trademark hat while being celebrated by the Tampa Rays and earning his Celebrity Jersey Card.
A native of Florida, Aric Almirola is a professional stock card racer. While not quite as accomplished as the aforementioned Petty, Almirola has earned several awards from his 1030+ races. His grandfather was a dirt sprint driver. Almirola took BP with the Rays to get his Celebrity Jersey Car. Unlike in racing, he wanted several hits. He wore #43, which was most recently worn by Harold Ramirez and possibly most notably by Esteban Yan.

Appreciating Katie Kadaver

Katie Kadaver is all over the horror scene. With a last name like that, she seemed destined for that field.
Seriously though, Katie is an artist, burlesque performer, producer, model, podcaster and more. She's also sweet and highly entertaining.
I think I first met Katie at Days of the Dead, but it very easily could have been another horror convention, as she is quite popular on the con scene. I know I crossed paths with her several times before I finally got a picture with her. Sometimes it is very hard to see her when she isn't busy.
It is people like Katie who make the conventions such fun. With no disrespect to her, she isn't a headline celebrity guest. She is a great part of any convention. Many attendees want to get pictures with her and she gladly obliges.
Any convention can't be just top line celebrities. The real heart of any convention are folks like Katie. Celebrities, vendors and attendees all love Katie!
For more fun, follow Katie on social media. If you happen to see her at a convention, chat with her and get a picture.
