In the modern era of pro wrestling, the manager position had pretty much disappeared. There are a few managers in the major feds, but nothing like the old days of Jimmy Hart, Bobby Heenan, Jim Cornette and the rest.
In Pro Wrestling Blitz, one man is trying to change that. His name is Rinaldo Piven and he is a manager, not just any manager though. He is THE manager at Pro Wrestling Blitz (and probably anywhere else). He is the self-proclaimed agent to the stars. Among others, he is the manager of PW Blitz heavyweight champ Ryan Slade.
Piven is very entertaining. His work is reminiscent of the old school managers listed above. It is the subtle nuances that make Piven great at what he does. He isn't a caricature.
After he "begrudgingly" signed a few autographs, he gave Johngy's Beat a few minutes of his time to talk about his career. Piven discusses his interest in wrestling, how he got started, his managerial role models and more in the interview. This is a rare look (and hopefully not the last one) at Piven outside of the ring.
After you watch the video below, you can check out the Rinaldo Piven Facebook page to learn more about him and see updates. Finally, be sure to check out PWBlitz.com and the Pro Wrestling Blitz Facebook page to get all of the info on this wrestling organization.

On the Beat with Ruff Crossing of Pro Wrestling Blitz
On Monday, we featured Scott Beatty (the Bobby Heenan of Johngy's Beat) meeting Ruff Crossing and giving his initial thoughts on him and Pro Wrestling Blitz. Today, we will feature the interview Scott conducted with Ruff Crossing for Johngy's Beat.
Billed from Sweet Grass (MT), Ruff Crossing debuted in 2004 and his finisher is the pumphandle pile driver. He is currently one of the good guys at Pro Wrestling Blitz and the crowd is massively behind him.
In the interview, Ruff Crossing discusses why he got into wrestling, the business of wrestling, who he would like to face and more. We learned a lot about this young star and we hope to continue to learn more and see more of him and Pro Wrestling Blitz.
After you watch the video below, you can check out the Ruff Crossing Facebook page to learn more about him and see updates. Finally, be sure to check out PWBlitz.com and the Pro Wrestling Blitz Facebook page to get all of the info on this wrestling organization.

On the Beat with Tony Scarpone of Pro Wrestling Blitz
We met Tony Scarpone at a wrestling show and he invited us to attend a Pro Wrestling Blitz event. As I have written over the last couple days, we attended our first show there last Saturday...and we walked away very impressed.
I will be honest and say I didn't know much about Scarpone or Pro Wrestling Blitz, but I was eager to learn more and experience it all in person. Scarpone and the entire Pro Wrestling Blitz organization treated us well. Despite running the show and being involved in two matches, Scarpone still found time to talk to Johngy's Beat to get this relationship started. Scarpone talked to Scott Beatty (the Bobby Heenan of Johngy's Beat) about owning and running Blitz and what Blitz has to offer fans. Lastly, Scarpone mentioned that Pro Wrestling Blitz will be at Throttle Fest, the midwest's largest 3 day bike rally, on June 1-3.
We look forward to learning more about Pro Wrestling Blitz as we attend more events in the future. As we learn, we will present it here and you will learn with us and enjoy the personalities of Pro Wrestling Blitz.

Friendly Encounters:Scott Beatty Meets Ruff Crossing
This is a weekly series featuring my friends who have met celebrities.
Today, I am presenting Scott Beatty. I have previously featured Scott, but mostly in connection to AU Sports, the sports memorabilia store he operates. Over the last few months, Scott has joined Johngy's Beat to cover some great wrestling action in the Chicago area.
Our most recent adventure took us to Pro Wrestling Blitz in Joliet (IL). It was our first time there and we were very impressed. I will be presenting more coverage of that over the next few days, but today, I am giving the floor to Scott, who will give his recap of the night and meeting one of the wrestlers.
Since joining forces with John for...plug coming...JohngysBeat.com..(Happy now, Johngy?), we have met and interviewed dozens of wrestlers. I have been a wrestling fan since I was six or seven years old and saw Dick "The Bruiser" and Superstar Billy Graham.
This past Saturday, we visited Pro Wrestling Blitz and hooked up with one of their top draws after the show. He goes by Ruff Crossing, but he is a cowboy of the white hat variety and the crowd popped huge for him. He was excited to meet us and be introduced to the Johngy's Beat universe. He was engaging and couldn't have been more pleasant. (If he turns heel, I will edit this.) No bull, he is an excellent in-ring performer and I hope we see a lot more of him. Be sure to check out our interview with Ruff Crossing running here on Wednesday.
Scott's Wrestler Rating:Eight Thumbs Up
You'll be hearing more from Scott in the future as the Johngy's Beat team continues to expand. In the meantime, please check out pwBlitz.com and the Pro Wrestling Blitz Facebook page for more info on this wrestling organization. Also, you can learn more about and get updates on Ruff Crossing on his Facebook page.

On the Beat with DDP at Pro Wrestling Blitz
ProJohngy's Beat took in our first Pro Wrestling Blitz show in Joliet (IL) and we were quite impressed. We will be running coverage here over the next few days, including pictures, interviews and recaps. Leading off though is our old friend Diamond Dallas Page, who was a special guest brought in by Blitz.
The lively crowd popped huge for DDP and why not? The man is a legend He overcame the odds to become a wrestler. Then he overcame the odds to become a two time (two time) World Heavyweight champ. Since mostly retiring from in-ring action, DDP has once again defied the odds and now he is helping others do the same.
DDP is the co-founder of YRG (Yoga for Regular Guys). It combines yoga, calisthenics, core training and resistance training. The results are evident in DDP himself. He has come back from a severe back injury to have the flexibility and strength of someone half his age.
It only begins with DDP though. His mission is to help others attain the same results. Unquestionably his greatest testimonial is Arthur Boorman, a disabled veteran of the Gulf War.
Unable to walk, overweight and out of hope, Boorman stumbled upon DDP's YRG. With a lot of work, determination and communication with DDP, Arthur overcame the odds and his story is one of inspiration and hope.
Arthur's story and the accompanying video can all be found here on DDP's YouTube page. You can also click on the picture below to get to Arthur's story.
Arthur's story is amazing, but it shouldn't be all that surprising considering DDP is behind it. DDP doesn't need a self-high five. Johngy's Beat will always be there to give you an enthusiastic high five! Apparently the feeling is mutual, too. In the video below, DDP gives a shout out to Johngy's Beat.
After you watch these videos, be sure to check out DiamondDallasPage.com and DDP's Facebook page to learn more about him and to get updates. He even gave us a mini-scoop, so check back here often, because we will have the exclusive!

Celeb Jersey Cards #105 Nicklas Lidstrom & Charles Woodson
This is a regular series which attempts to combine my passion for bubblegum cards with my interest in celebrities. Since I just returned from Detroit and the Motor City Comic Con, I thought I would feature some Detroit-themed Celebrity Jersey Cards.
Born in Sweden, Nicklas Lidstrom has carved out a Hall of Fame career during his 20 seasons with the Detroit Red Wings. He has won four Stanley Cups, seven Norris trophies, one Conn Smythe award and been an All-Star twelve times. He also won a gold medal in the Olympics and the World Championships. Lidstrom stayed true to his Detroit adopted home by donning the Tigers jersey for his Celebrity Jersey Card.
Charles Woodson was born in Ohio, but went to the University of Michigan. His fourteen (and counting) year NFL career started with the Oakland Raiders and then moved onto the Green Bay Packers and will eventually lead him to Canton and the Football Hall of Fame. Although he has never played professionally in Detroit, Woodson threw out a first pitch and earned a Celebrity Jersey Card for himself.

On the Beat (Again!!) with Serenity of Resistance Pro Wrestling
Yesterday, we ran a "lost" interview with Serenity from Resistance Pro Wrestling's "Obsession". Thanks again to her for reminding us. Today, we are featuring our latest interview from "A Small Deadly Space".
Of course, we got an update from her on her activities since last month, but we also veered off wrestling and she gave us a little glimpse of herself outside of the ring.
What she might lack in experience, she makes up for in determination. She is still young, but she is wrestling anywhere she can to hone her skills and become a major player. She is determined and energetic.
We really enjoy talking to Serenity. We very much appreciate her willingness to give us a bit of her time. We think she has a bright future (even brighter than her signature pink and purple hair).
After you watch the interview below, check out ResistancePro.com to learn all about this great new wrestling company. Also, please be sure to check out ScreamnSerenity on twitter and the Serenity Facebook page. Also, be sure to click on over at ResistancePro.com to learn all about this exciting new wrestling company.

Serenity: The Lost Interview
At the recent Resistance Pro Wrestling event, "A Deadly Small Space", we talked to one of our regulars, Serenity. On the way to the interview area, Serenity and I engaged in a friendly debate about her last interview with us, which ran in April. Or did it?
Serenity asked where it was. I (foolishly) assured her it was on this site somewhere shortly after the last event. I should have known better than to argue with this pink and purple haired dynamo.
So before I run the newest interview with Serenity, I want to run the "lost" Serenity interview. Her voice needs to be heard and we want to bring it to you.
Before I run the lost interview though, I want to apologize for missing this. I don't know how it happened, but it did. I will have to talk to our technical department here at Johngy's Beat. We really appreciate every time anyone takes time to talk to us. The talent at R Pro is always great, despite being super busy at the events. And Serenity...what can I say...she is always ready to talk to us and we love her for it.
After you watch the interview below, check out ResistancePro.com to learn all about this great new wrestling company. Also, please be sure to check out ScreamnSerenity on twitter and the Serenity Facebook page. Check back here tomorrow for the newest interview with Serenity (no, we did not lose it this time!).
Now, without further adieu, here is the lost interview with Serenity from April.

On the Beat with Sheri Shaw and Brian Judy of Resistance Pro Wrestling
Together, Sheri Shaw and Brian Judy are sstaria and together they make great music in and out of Resistance Pro Wrestling. We got to talk to Sheri at "Obsession", but at "A Small Deadly Space", we finally got to meet her sstaria partner Brian.
Sheri is the Musical Director for R Pro. Sheri and Brian provide all of the music for R Pro. With a good sized roster and several new appearances every show, they have their hands full keeping up, but they are definitely up to that challenge. They help keep the R Pro audience charged with their tunes.
They also have music outside of R Pro. Their songs can be found on iTunes. Johngy's Beat contributor Scott Beatty (a self-described music expert) loves sstaria's music. I have just average musical expertise, but I love sstaria as well and will be getting their tunes from iTunes.
We talked to Sheri and Brian about writing music for and being involved with Billy Corgan and R Pro. They talked about their future projects with R Pro and sstaria. They also answered our "special" question about a theme for Johngy's Beat.. Check it out. It's recorded here, although I am not sure if we can actually hold them to their answer, but how awesome would it be to have a Johngy's Beat theme! Yeah, as if they aren't busy enough.
Seriously, we love these two. They could not have been any nicer. We hope you give them a listen.
After you watch the interview, go to sstaria.com and the sstaria Facebook page and follow sstaria on twitter to learn more about them and to get all of their updates. Also, as always, check out ResistancePro.com to learn more about this cool organization!

On the Beat with Mike Bucci and Shelly Martinez of Resistance Pro Wrestling
At Resistance Pro Wrestling's "A Small Deadly Space", we had a chance to catch up a bit with old friend Mike Bucci. You can read all about how we first met Bucci by clicking here. Bucci gave us his time and some real insight during that first interview. He also provided a lot of laughs.
Bucci represents all that is good with wrestling. He is just a great guy who treats everyone with respect.
I was surprised to see him at the January R Pro event, when he was announced as the voice of R Pro. What a great choice. Bucci has a great mind for wrestling which will certainly come across during his commentary, but just his presence and leadership in R Pro is a huge addition.
At every show, I see him advising so many of the wrestlers. He is straightforward and honest, without being a jerk. I have a lot of respect for Bucci and I am proud to call him a friend. (I am just not sure about his love of the Dallas Cowboys though).
We started talking to Bucci about R Pro and he was giving us his usual insight, when Shelly Martinez came onto the scene. It became similar to a backstage skit...well, maybe because it was backstage and it was a lot of fun.
Martinez is one of the talented wrestlers brought in to add something to the R Pro roster. Martinez worked for ECW, WWE, TNA and other smaller organizations. She has acted, been in music videos, modeled and much more. She is one busy lady.
Earlier in the night, Martinez was part of a 6 person women's match. She was on her game, too, wrestling a very solid match. Plus, she is as cute as ever.
The interaction between Bucci and Martinez is classic and I am right in the middle of it (like Gene Okerlund), You have to watch the video until the end.
After you watch the interview, you can get updates and learn more about Mike Bucci on his Facebook Page. Also, go to ShellyMartinez.org and the Shelly Martinez Funpage on Facebook and follow Martinez on twitter to learn more about Martinez and to get updates. Finaly, check out www.ResistancePro.com to get all the info on R Pro!

Friendly Encounters:Jack Odanovich Meets Chanel Ryan
This is a weekly series about fiends who have met celebs.
As I return from the Motor City Comic Con, there is nobody better to have on Friendly Encounters than Jack Odanovich. I originally met Jack several years ago while researching MCCC for Global Traveler. Jack has been very helpful in sharing pictures and stories about the MCCC and a couple other conventions. I appreciate his help.
Jack is a great guy and a wonderful photographer, as proven by the many beautiful pictures on the Jack Odanovich Photography Facebook page.I enjoy looking at the awesome images and the fun times he captures.
Of course, I can't mention Jack, without mentioning his father, Craig, who is a relatively new, but rising author. I have read and honestly greatly enjoyed all of Craig's books. Friend or not, Craig's The Black Widow Trainer series is fresh, fun and intriguing!
Once again, Jack shared one of his pictures from a previous MCCC. Donned in his usual Star Wars gear, Jack gets a lot of good attention. Even the celebs like his attire.

On the Beat with Eric St. Vaughn of Resistance Pro Wrestling
Today, I am featuring a member of the Resistance Pro Wrestling roster who has yet to compete in the squared circle, but appears to be headed for stardom. According to Eric St. Vaughn, he is a "loyal and humble member of Team D'Arcy".
What exactly does that mean? We asked that question to Mr. St. Vaughn and he answered it, along with giving us his thoughts on Team D'Arcy, who he'd like to face on the R Pro roster, who his wrestling influence is and other interesting things.
St. Vaughn is an interesting guy. He reminds me of someone else, but just can't put my finger on it. Not much else is known about St. Vaughn. It's not just me either. Nobody else seems to have the info on this future impact player at R Pro.
Hopefully, this interview is just the beginning of getting to know more about St. Vaughn. I think he has a great future and we plan on being around to cover it.
After you watch the interview, be sure to check out the Eric St. Vaughn Facebook page. As always, you can go to ResistancePro.com to learn more about Eric, Team D'Arcy and the rest of this talent at R Pro.

On the Beat with Tommy Else of Resistance Pro Wrestling
It has been a blast covering Resistance Pro Wrestling, but one of the very best parts has been getting to know Tommy Else. It has been a real pleasure and I am happy to call him a friend.
Tommy is a fitness instructor and the owner-operator of T3 Fitness. He is also the creative genius of the T3 Universe. Wait, let me rephrase that in his words. He is "our Sunday night savior and master of the T3 universe". Who am I to argue with that?
Tommy is an ISSA (International Sports Sciences Association) certified Personal Trainer, whose parents were competitive body builders. Tommy is also a natural (drug-free) body builder.
Tommy is a unique individual and he shows it in every aspect of his life. As a trainer, he is committed to actually helping people of all levels of fitness. He genuinely cares for the well-being of each of his clients. He pays attention to their specific needs, goals and limitations and develops a training regimen and diet for them.
A different aspect of his personality is evident on his T3 Universe podcasts. Tommy has fun with these, inviting guests who he finds interesting. He even had my nephew and me join him recently (and it was a great time). It's his podcast (or his universe), but he shines the spotlight on others and everyone has fun.
Tommy also had a tryout with Resistance Pro a few months ago. You'll have to check out his site to find out how that all went. That's his story to tell and it is quite a story.
We again had the pleasure of interviewing Tommy at R Pro's "A Small Deadly Space". Tommy talked about the T3 Universe, T3 Fitness and other fun stuff.
After you watch the interview, please check out Tommy's Facebook page, the T3 Universe Facebook page and the T3 Universe website to learn more about Tommy and to get updates on his latest activities.

On the Beat with Thunderkitty of Resistance Pro Wrestling
When I saw Thunderkitty's photo on an ad for Resistance Pro Wrestling's "A Small Deadly Space", I knew we needed to have her on Johngy's Beat. Her old school look drew my interest. The more I learned about her, the more I liked.
On her twitter account, she describes herself as "wrestler, nerd, public transportation warrior and occasional voice of reason". She says she enjoys beer, rock and roll and ridiculousness, but not necessarily in that order.
Okay, I am hooked. Interesting (unique) gimmick. Funny write up. Seems to have a good attitude. Johngy's Beat needed to get a word from this newcomer to R Pro.
Fortunately, Thunderkitty was very obliging. After winning her match via the sleeper hold (how's that for old school?), Thunderkitty gave us a few minutes of her time.
Her old school gimmick seems more of a persona. The best wrestling gimmicks usually are. The fans of R Pro certainly seemed to get into her gimmick.
Thunderkitty discusses her character, how she got started in wrestling, her future goals, comics and much more. Her influences include some of the legendary women wrestlers (all of whom are long retired). She is a throwback indeed.
After you watch the interview, please go to Thunderkitty's Facebook page and follow Thunderkitty on twitter to learn all about her and to get all the latest news. Also, check out ResistancePro.com to learn more about Thunderkitty and the rest of the talent at this exciting new wrestling company!

After you watch the interview, please go to Thunderkitty's Facebook page and follow Thunderkitty on twitter to learn all about her and to get all the latest news. Also, check out ResistancePro.com to learn more about Thunderkitty and the rest of the talent at this exciting new wrestling company!

On the Beat with Robert Anthony of Resistance Pro Wrestling
A couple days ago, when we featured Sassy Stephie, we mentioned a cameo appearance by Robert Anthony. This was Anthony's second pop-in during one of our interviews. We have no problem with that spontaniety, but we just wanted to get him in his own interview. After all of the matches at "A Small Deadly Space", we finally got "The Ego" one-on-one.
A veteran of 11 years, Anthony was ranked #317 on PWI's Top 500 singles wrestlers in 2011. He has won several titles in various organizations over the years and he seems primed for a shot at the Resistance Pro title in the near future.
Anthony talks about how he got the name "Mr. Ego", wrestling for R Pro and who he would like to wrestle. He also talks about meeting the Ultimate Warrior, one of his childhood favorites.
Anthony has the charisma, the ability and the drive to become a star in wrestling. Despite the Ego moniker, he also has a deep respect for the sport. Anthony is quickly developing a big and strong fan following at R Pro and you can count the staff of Johngy's Beat among his Egomaniacs!
After you watch the interview below, make sure to follow Robert Anthony on twitter. Also go to ResistancePro.com to learn more about Anthony and the rest of the talent at R Pro.

Happy Birthday Laura!
My niece Laura is celebrating a birthday today. That means I give her the Johngy's Beat treatment!
It seems like just yesterday I was riding the train with her mom during her pregnancy. Fast forward a few years and Laura has grown into a great young adult with a unique take on things and a great sense of humor.
I give her a fair share of sarcasm (and she gives it right back), but I love her dearly. Aside from a couple food choices, my two cross-country trips with Laura and her mom were two of the best experiences I have had. She is a blast.
I love you, Laura and I hope you have a great day and year!
PS-Love, love, love the shirt, Laura!!!

On the Beat (Again!) with Sassy Stephie at Resistance Pro Wrestling
A few days ago, I wrote about hoping to catch up with Sassy Stephie, one of the talented young women wrestlers with Resistance Pro Wrestling. Despite being involved in a fast-paced, highly competitive 6 person match, Sassy Stephie was kind enough to give us an update on her life since last we met.
Stephie is currently one half of the tag team champs (with Allysin Kay) for WSU (Women's Superstars Uncensored Wrestling). She is busy honing her craft all over.
The Sassy One talked about that, along with her love for the Cleveland Browns. She also gave plenty of good reasons why she can call herself a badass. I think her qualifications back up that claim!
Once again, as with our Jacques Baron interview from last month, Robert Anthony makes an unexpected cameo appearance. Don't worry, we finally pinned him down later and that interview will be here soon.
Make no mistake about it though, Sassy Stephie is the star of this interview and rightly so. This talented young wrestler is making her mark on the wrestling. She was ranked #41 in PWI's top 50 and I predict she will move up that chart in 2012.
After you watch the interview below, be sure to check out StephanieSager.wordpress.com, follow her on twitter and check out Stephie's Facebook page. Also, go to ResistancePro.com to learn all about the talented wrestlers of R Pro.

Friendly Encounters:Josh Watko Meets Jessica Kresa (aka ODB)
This is a weekly series featuring my friends who have met celebrities.
Today, we highlight Josh Watko, a regular contributor to Friendly Encounters and master of JW's Wrestling Memorabilia. Josh is a knowledgeable wrestling fan who translates that knowledge into his interesting site. Josh has met a lot of wrestlers and he always has unique insight about the meeting.
For this installment, Josh discusses meeting a very underrated wrestler, but I will let Josh tell his story...
Through attending various house shows, Fanfests, and other events it seems that I had met just about anyone on TNA/Impact Wrestling's roster in the past couple of years. One name that constantly eluded me was the rough and tumble Knockout herself, ODB, aka Jessie Kresa.
A veteran of the business (she actually tried out for the first season of "Tough Enough"), ODB brings a great character and toughness to the Knockouts table which is otherwise filled with glamorous, though capable, women's stars.
Much to my delight, ODB was added to the recent Lockdown Fanfest at the last minute. Although Nashville, TN is about ten hours from my home base, after attending the Bound For Glory Fanfest in October I learned that these events are well worth the trip.
The event is divided into four autograph/photo sessions, the first three filled with various members of the main roster and the last with the "Main Event" stars such as Hulk Hogan, Ric Flair, and Sting. With the first three fans can choose in which order they would like to meet the stars by going from line to line. As ODB was in the first session, I decided that I would be the first in line.
Miss Kresa was just as outgoing as she appears on television and practically born for events such as these. Although it is said that you are limited to having two items signed per talent, I noticed that ODB's line had emptied drastically near the end of the session. I not only was able to get a second photo with the star, but she was happy to sign a handful of trading cards that I had brought as well.
Although all of the Knockouts are great to meet and know how to treat their fans, ODB stands out as boldly with fans as she does in the ring.
I always appreciate Josh's willingness to share his stories and pictures. He has some interesting experiences. Please check out WrestlingMemorabilia.blogspot.com and JW's Wrestling Memorabilia Facebook page for more of Josh's wrestling encounters, as well as wrestling products and show reviews, interesting lists, thoughtful insight and much more.

On the Beat with Chris Nowinski at Resistance Pro Wrestling
At the recent Resistance Pro Wrestling event, A Small Deadly Space, Chris Nowinski made his R Pro debut. I love all of the talent at R Pro, but Nowinski is a special case for me.
Nowinski is a former WWE wrestler. A two-time Hardcore Champion, he seemed on the verge of a great wrestling career. Unfortunately, his path was derailed by a career-ending concussion. As it turns out, this was actually the beginning of a new and much more important career. Nowinski is making a difference in the world.
Nowinski became an expert on concussions, authoring a book, Head Games: Football's Concussion Crisis, and co-founded (with Dr. Robert Cantu) the Sports Legacy Institute. The SLI was founded to help eliminate the concussion crisis through research and by educating others.
This work is especially important to me, because I suffered many concussions as an infant. I'll spare the details, but I was born with a condition which caused great pressure inside my skull, thus resulting in concussions, without any physical contact. I actually plan on having my brain donated to the SLI.
Nowinski was named Head of Athletic Safety at Resistance. It is not just a storyline role either. Nowinski discusses all of this in the interview below.
I really appreciate Nowinski giving us a few minutes. It was his first night at R Pro and he was extremely busy, but he got to us during intermission.
After you watch the interview, please check out ChrisNowinski.com and SportsLegacy.org to learn more about Chris and his work. Also, be sure to check out ResistancePro.com to get all of the info on this exciting new organization!

Celeb Jersey Cards #104 James Denton & Breckin Meyer
This is a regular series which attempts to combine my passion for trading cards with my interest in celebrities. When it comes to celebrities wearing jerseys, the Los Angeles Dodgers are one of the most worn teams.
A native of Nashville (TN) and a graduate of the University of Tennessee, actor James Denton is a big baseball fan. He is part-owner of the Orange County Flyers of the Golden Baseball League. Denton fits in perfectly with the Dodgers and actually looks like he could play a bit, too. He wore #2 for Hall of Fame Manager Tommy LaSorda, while playing in one of many charity games in Los Angeles. This James Denton Celebrity Jersey Card is dedicated to my friend Chuck, a long-time Denton fan.
Breckin Meyer was born in Minneapolis (MN), but his career took him to Hollywood and the Dodgers. Meyer wore the #3, worn so well by Steve Sax, for his appearance at Dodgers Stadium and onto a Celebrity Jersey Card. Meyer attended elementary school with Drew Barrymore and reportedly was her first kiss.

Stepping Out with Sassy Stephie
At the Resistance Pro Wrestling event in January, we interviewed Sassy Stephie. The Sassy One has been in the women's title picture at R Pro right from the beginning.
Sassy Stephie is a talented, young wrestler. She can be seen wrestling all over, especially in the midwest. She is working very hard to improve her skills and get as much ring work as possible.
Aside from actually wrestling, Stephie has done some video work of her own. Her "Stepping Out" segments, along with other cool Stephie stuff, can be found on her YouTube channel. Stephie has a lot of charisma and should go far in wrestling (or pretty much whatever business she chooses).
She is scheduled for the next R Pro event tonight. Johngy's Beat will be there in full force. Hopefully, we will get an update from her.
To learn more about Stephie, be sure to check out StephanieSager.wordpress.com, follow her on twitter and check out Stephie's Facebook page. Also, go to ResistancePro.com to learn all about the talented wrestlers of R Pro.

RAK and His Superfreeks
I have met Robert A. Kraus many times and have always walked away with some of his creations. Kraus, aka RAK, is the creative force behind Superfreeks among other artistic productions.
Superfreeks is a line of caricatures of everything from Superheros to athletes to musicians and beyond. Below, he is holding Superfreek cards of Roddy Piper and Ric Flair. I now own those cards. I only wish he did a wrestling version of Piper, but don't get me started, because I also wish he did Billy Joel and Andrea Evans and Tammy Sytch and Patrick Warburton and me (just to name a few).
I write that statement as a compliment, not a complaint. My point is, just as I bought several of his cards, my mind starts racing to more people I'd like to see him immortalize on a Superfreek card (like Gregg Hurwitz, Patricia Kara, Ben Bailey and Fran Gallagher). These cards are addictive.
RAK appears at a lot of conventions and has a lot of his cards on display. I usually stop and look and then find myself in a Superfreek trance. Finally I pick a handful and ask him about others I don't see but would want (like Leah Remini, Christy Hemme, MythBusters, Don Knotts and on and on and on). Did I mention I love these cards?

Cruising in the Ectomobile
The Motor City Comic Con is less than two weeks away and I can't wait. The tickets are bought. The rooms are reserved. We are all set to go.
Unfortunately, we will not be driving in anything as cool as the Ectomobile. Everyone remembers the Ectomobile from Ghostbusters. It was actually a 1959 Cadillac Miller-Meteor that was once used as an ambulance.
Also known as the Ecto 1, the car needed a lot of repairs, in addition to specially added features required for the movie. For instance it needed a device to carry the proton packs. It also needed the addition of the very familiar Ghostbusters logo.
The Ectomobile was on display at the 2011 MCCC. Unfortunately, it was roped off and you could not sit in it, even for a price. You know it is special when they do not even let you near it to make extra bucks.
Still, it was cool seeing it up close. This is just one of the extra exhibits that make the Motor City Comic Con one of my favorites of the year.
I still think it would be cool to drive this bad boy up to Novi, but I will have to settle for my usual wheels.

Johngy, Big Money, Scooby Do and the Mystery Machine
The title says it all, but I will ramble on a bit about the circumstances which lead us there.
Johngy's Beat Executive Producer Matt Parker (aka Big Money) and I were covering Wizard World last year. After doing our scheduled interviews and yapping a bit with old favorites like Tammy Sytch, Matt and I had some fun off the job.
When we saw the famous Mystery Machine, we knew we had to grab the opportunity to ride in it. Okay, we didn't actually "ride" in it, but we did sit in there and fake it. Either way, we were happy to get that close to the Mystery Machine.
This is just one of the cool "extra" attractions you will find at Wizard World. They usually have a handful of famous vehicles and you can always take pictures with and usually get into the vehicles.

Friendly Encounters:Tom Kirlin Meets Laura Prepon
This is a weekly series about my friends who have met celebrities.
When we last saw Tom Kirlin, it was his Friendly Encounters debut and he was pictured with the Thomas Nicholas Band. The next time that some of us will see Tom will be at the Pancakes and Booze Show in Atlanta (GA) on May 18-19.
Unfortunately, I will not be at the Pancakes and Booze Show, nor do I think my artist friend Milena Matic (of MoJi Expressions) will be showing off some of her fine work there. Maybe if I ask really nice,Tom will bring this cool event to Chicago.
Tom is the creator of this unique event. As the name would indicate, it combines pancakes and booze, along with lots of art, music and fun. The first event was in 2008 and it has been growing in size and location ever since. I am still hoping (and lobbying) for a Chicago event.
If you can't make it to the Pancakes and Booze event in Portland, several more are planned for this year (Minneapolis, Atlanta, Phoenix, Dallas and more). I will also be doing updates throughout the year. Hopefully, I will actually report directly from the show!
Until then, check out PancakesandBooze.com to learn more about Tom and his great creation. You can also get updates on the Facebook page.

On the Beat with Bruce Scivally at C2E2
I had to go to a convention in downtown Chicago to discover a talented writer who lives a couple miles form me. How about that?
Bruce Scivally is a Chicago area historian, teacher and author. Bruce's latest book is Billion Dollar Batman, a history of Batman in movies and television. This book is full of interviews, pictures and fascinating stories covering the history of the Caped Crusader.
When I saw Bruce would be at C2E2, I really wanted to meet and talk to him. I have a fascination with learning the history and behind-the-scenes info and Bruce's three years of research certainly delivers everything I would want to know about Batman.
Bruce kindly gave us a few minutes of his time to discuss Billion Dollar Batman and to give us a few nuggets of Bat-trivia. Watch the interview below to learn more about Bruce and his book and to get a special surprise visitor near the end!
Previous to Billion Dollar Batman, Scivally wrote a book about Superman, entitled Superman on Film, Television, Radio and Broadway. With the big two super heros done, the next logical choice (at least in my biased eyes) has to be Aquaman. Come on Bruce, make us Aquafans happy!
After you watch the video, please check out BruceScivally.com and Bruce's Facebook page to learn more about this talented author and his books.

Celeb Jersey Cards #103 Elisabeth Hasselbeck & Craig Kilborn
This is a regular series which attempts to combine my passion for trading cards with my interest in celebrities. With the NBA playoffs underway, I am giving some love to two teams not involved.
Representing the Washington Wizards (I still like Bullets better) is Elisabeth Hasselbeck, who gained fame while on Survivor. Hasselbeck, wife of former NFL qb Tim Hasselbeck, has built a successful career as a co-host on The View. Hasselbeck has no real ties to the Wizards. She wore the jersey to encourage the NBA to resume play (during the strike of 2011). Still, it was enough to earn her a Celebrity Jersey Card.
Representing the woeful Minnesota Timberwolves is Craig Kilborn. Although he was born in Kansas City, he grew up in Minnesota and grow up he did...to 6'5". He was a basketball star in high school and earned a scholarship to Montana State University. He has remained true to his roots, despite the continual problems of the T-Wolves. While I couldn't find a picture of Kilborn in an actual jersey, the picture below is from a legit team practice and that is good enough for Kilborn to star on his own Celebrity Jersey Card.

On the Beat with Sara Richard at C2E2
Sara Richard's booth is a regular stop of ours at conventions. Sara is an illustrator, sculptor and author. In fact, her book, Kitty & Dino, just came out.
At the recent C2E2, we caught up with Sara and got our first look at Kitty & Dino, a wonderful children's book about a friendship that forms between a cat and a dinosaur. It is beautifully illustrated by Sara and it is sure to be a hit with kids (and maybe some adults, too). As we learned from our previous interviews with Sara, she is a big fan of dinosaurs and her passion for them, coupled with her illustrating talent, make this an adorable book.
Sara talks about and shows her book in the interview below. After you watch the interview, be sure to check out SaraRichard.com and the Sara Richard Art page on Facebook to learn more about this talented young artist and to get updates on her latest projects.
I hope Sara produces more books, because (as you can tell) I think Kitty & Dino is pretty cool. I just hope somewhere down the line, she puts in a cameo appearance by an emu named Johngy.

Free Comic Book Day
Saturday May 5 is Free Comic Book Day. Celebrated on the first Saturday of May, Free Comic Book Day is one day every year when participating comic book stores across the world give away comics to visitors of their stores.
To learn a bit more about this day and comics in general, I went to the best source of info, the man behind Dark Tower Comics, which was voted Chicago's #1 comic book store by Chicago magazine.
Mark Beatty owns and operates this full service comic book store on the north side of Chicago. They have a huge selection of comics, plus a unique pull service, where each month they will pull your specifically requested comics and have them waiting for you. Now that is awesome service.
They also have a lot of in-store autograph signings. Actually, Dark Tower Comics will have a guest signing on Free Comic Book Day. Robert Rodi, creator of several comic-book series, including Codename: Knockout and The Crossovers, will be in store signing on May 5 from noon until 2 p.m. Rodi also has written a number of series for Marvel.
Mark and Dark Tower Comics are a fixture at local comic cons like C2E2, which is where we caught up with this mad genius. Mark gave us his thoughts on comic cons, Free Comic Book Day and more. After you watch the interview, check out DarkTowerComics.net and the Dark Tower Comics Facebook page to learn more about this comics super-store.

On the Beat with David Newell (Mr. McFeely) at C2E2
Yesterday, I talked about talking to Jim Martin, who played a major part in my childhood television entertainment. Today, I am featuring another legend from children's television, David Newell (aka Mr. McFeely), who happened to be sharing a booth with Martin at C2E2 as they promoted the Toonseum of Pittsburgh.
Newell had a lengthy line every day of the convention, but he made sure everyone walked away happy. Just like with Martin, I figured Newell's lengthy line would prohibit an interview. I am happy to admit I was wrong again.
Newell graciously gave us some of his time, despite being incredibly busy. He talked about the Toonseum, PBS, Mr. Rogers and Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood, a new series debuting later this year.
After watching the interview (and make sure you watch to the very end...there is a surprise there), to learn more about David Newell, go to PBSKids.org and FredRogers.org. To learn more about Pittsburgh's Toonseum, go to Toonseum.org and follow the Toonseum on twitter.
It was a thrill talking to this television icon and he could not have been any nicer. It was an unexpected interview, but one that I will cherish.

On the Beat with Jim Martin at C2E2
I really enjoy meeting and interviewing interesting people and celebrities. I appreciate every one of them for their time and consideration in talking to us. A select few are very special to me, however and Jim Martin is one of those.
Martin's name and face might not be as recognizable as some celebrities, but he is an icon, especially in children's television history. I certainly have enjoyed his work for as long as I can remember.
Martin has worked on Sesame Street, Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood, Captain Kangaroo, DJ Kat Show, the Great Space Coaster and many more shows that we watched growing up. While in college at DePaul, I remember watching DJ Kat in the student lounge. These shows aren't just for kids!
When I saw Jim would be at C2E2, I immediately attempted to contact him for an interview. I figured it was a long shot, as he certainly would be too busy. Ironically, he did answer me, but the email somehow got lost and I did not know.
At C2E2, I saw the huge lines for Jim and David Newell (more on him in the near future) and figured the interview would be impossible. How wrong I was!
I arrived early with the rest of the press and walked by his booth. I was shocked when he basically called me over and asked about the interview. How incredibly nice. Of course, I jumped at the chance to interview him.
Jim was appearing at C2E2 to promote the Toonseum in Pittsburgh (PA). The Toonseum is Pittsburgh's Museum of Comic and Cartoon Art. It sounds like an absolute blast!
In the interview below, Jim talks about his career, the Toonseum, the rights to the Great Space Coaster (there is good gnus here), "Tanslin" and much more. He gave us far more of his time and thoughts than we could have imagined and we are so grateful.
After you watch the interview below, please check out JimMartinProductions.com and TanslinMedia.com to learn about Jim, his current projects and the Great Space Coaster project. Also, please go to indiegogo.com/TGSC to learn how you can help the Great Space Coaster restoration project. Finally, check out Toonseum.org to learn more about Pittsburgh's Museum of Comic and Cartoon Art.
I really appreciate Jim talking to us and his interest in keeping in touch. I also appreciate all he has contributed to the entertainment world.
